review
plans and approve exterior signage contract for the 700 first street building: Mayor Knudson asked Jim O’Connor to present
information regarding the proposed exterior signage at the 700 First Street
building.
Mr. O’Connor shared
information about the placement of exterior signs on the entrance doors, on the
building, and at the driveways. He
stated they were planning on having three foot high letters spelling “LIBRARY”
on the southwest and east sides of the building. The letters on the east side would be white
with lighting.
Discussion was held
regarding lighted signs, placement, and the need for the sign plan to be
approved by Council. MOTION by O’Malley,
second by Bernard to accept the entire sign plan as proposed, minus the lighted
library sign or any sign saying Library, on the east side of the building.
Mr. O’Connor stated he
thought there was a consensus about what the signage would be. He noted the letters were in production but
that the lighting was optional.
Additional discussion was held regarding the lettering, lighting, and
cost. Alderperson O’Malley amended his
motion to include accepting the letters on the east side of the building, if
they are not lighted. Alderperson
Bernard stated she would second the amended motion if the lettering was also
moved to just above the second floor windows, below the “soldier bricks.” Alderperson O’Malley agreed to accept that
placement as part of the amended motion.
All ayes (5) MOTION CARRIED.
