Become a Poll Worker

Become a Poll Worker

Citizen involvement is essential to conduct open, accurate and fair elections. The City of Hudson encourages all citizens to vote and to become involved in the election process.  The City Clerk’s Office requires the assistance of Poll Workers to serve as Election Inspectors, Chief Election Inspectors and Special Voting Deputies. To serve as an election official a person must be:

  • An eligible voter in St. Croix County (an adult US citizen who has resided in St. Croix County for at least 10 days and not disqualified from voting)
  • Have never been convicted of a felony
  • Attend training
  • Speak, read, write and understand English
  • Pay close attention to detail
  • Work well with others
  • Perform duties in a non-partisan manner
  • Abide by State and Federal election laws
  • Not be a candidate for any office on the ballot for that election

Duties will include:

  • Setting up the polling place if needed
  • Registering voters
  • Issuing ballots
  • Records who votes
  • Monitor election equipment
  • Completing election day forms
  • Tally write-in votes
  • Closing the polls

Election Inspectors are compensated for their time working at the polling place and for attending training sessions.  The current pay is $10/hour for Election Inspectors, $11/hour for Chief Inspectors and $10.50/hour for Assistant Chief Inspectors.  Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Poll workers can generally work a full day (from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.), however if enough poll workers are available a split shift may be possible.
